I am honored and privileged to be able to serve as president of the Tennessee Fire Chiefs Association this next year. Although I am excited about leading the association, I realize it will be a challenging experience. The association has accomplished much over the years due to the hard work of the board and various committees and has grown to a record number of more than four hundred members. We continue to encourage chiefs and chief fire officers to become members of the association and be a part of planning for the future of the fire service in Tennessee. The association adopted a ten year strategic plan in 2010 that includes a vision of having an association made up of every fire chief and chief fire officer in the state as a contributor. Our agenda for this next year will primarily focus on the strategic plan. The various committees will be working on objectives within the eight goals of the plan. I have no doubt this next year will be another successful year.
I have been a firefighter with Henderson County Fire Department for thirty-two years, fourteen of those years as chief of the department. I began my firefighting career as a junior firefighter. Little did I know that someday not only would I serve as chief of the department, but as president of one of the most successful organizations in the fire service. We still have a junior program and I often find myself encouraging a junior firefighter with my own story of success.
