Authorizes fire service utility district in Knox County to impose charges on nonsubscriber for cost of services rendered. Fire Dept Authority During Emergency SB 0988 McNally / HB 0856 Haynes R. Fire department authority during emergency. Establishes that fire departments responding outside their district shall report to the fire chief or designee in the district where the fire occurs. Local Construction Inspection Services SB 0904 Watson B. / HB 1082 McCormick Local construction inspection services. Requires local jurisdictions located in Davidson, Hamilton, Knox, and Shelby County who are approved by the state fire marshal to enforce and adopt specified codes to take on the responsibility of all required construction inspection services for buildings less than three stories high Bill Tracking Pending
Volunteer Firefighter Week SB 0739 Bell / HB 0681 Cobb J. Volunteer Firefighters Week. Designates the first full week in March of each year as "Volunteer Firefighters Week." Prohibits such day from being a legal holiday. TCA Sec. 15-02-0100 Senator Bell is going to include rescue squads in this bill. The coalition recommended tying the date to something historical. Prohibits Smoking in Fire Stations SB 0853 Haynes J. / HB 1123 Turner M. Prohibits smoking in fire stations. Extends prohibition on smoking in places of employment to fire stations of volunteer fire departments or companies recognized under title 68, chapter 102, part 3 as well as to those of political subdivisions. Includes volunteer fire fighters under the definition of employee for purposes of such prohibition. Exemptions from Mandatory Sprinkler Requirements SB 1423 Woodson / HB 1726* Armstrong Exemptions from mandatory sprinkler requirements. Authorizes state fire marshal to exempt certain buildings from mandatory sprinkler requirements adopted by local governments if the building has no more than one story, has at least three exits, has at least 15,000 square feet, and has a fire alarm monitoring system or smoke detectors with visible warning.
