TN-PERI
Tennessee - Pipeline Emergency Responders Initiative
MISSION STATEMENT
To advance the abilities of emergency responders to manage pipeline emergencies through improved training, cooperation and communication.

What is TN-PERI?
TN-PERI is a cooperative effort by Tennessee response agencies, pipeline operators, regulators, and other relevant agencies to advance the abilities of emergency responders to prevent, recognize, respond, and effectively manage pipeline emergencies. The program was developed after a recognition that pipelines can be found in virtually every Tennessee county. The risk of a large-scale pipeline emergency requires enhanced training that provides Tennessee responders with the information and tactics needed for minimizing impacts.

What's in it for Responders?
-
Tennessee emergency responders, specifically qualified in pipeline emergencies content, serve as trainers
-
PERI is county-specific, focused on the pipelines, risks and hazards your team will face
-
PERI provides opportunities to engage with operators, understand roles and responsibilities, and walk through pipeline emergency scenarios
-
Training promotes awareness of the role responders can play in reducing excavation damage that can lead to pipeline emergencies

How Does it Benefit Tennessee Communities?
PERI provides consistent training and materials for emergency responders across the state. All responders receive the same information
• Enhanced learning promotes faster responses and more efficient use of personnel and equipment
• Partnerships among responders and operators drive improved incident management and protection of people, assets, and the environment
• The ultimate goal is to enhance pipeline emergency response, prevent pipeline emergencies and improve public safety

OUR GOALS
Provide sustainable training for first responders
Place emphasis on pipeline emergency response training.
Establish alternative pipeline response training delivery methods
Enhance operator emergency responder outreach and liaison program.
Promote responder awareness of their role in reducing excavation damage incidents.
What's in it for Pipeline Operators?
PERI training supports Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) requirements for outreach to emergency responders, per RP 1162 First Edition, Public Awareness Programs for Pipeline Operators.
The PERI approach promotes engagement with responders with opportunities to get to know the responders in the areas in which you operate.
Program sponsorship entitles operators to a company-specific web tool for storage and easy retrieval of training and outreach records to satisfy regulatory audit requirements.
How is TN-PERI Different?
-
Pipeline emergencies may be infrequent, but they can occur. These types of emergencies require cooperation and coordination among Tennessee response agencies and pipeline operators.
-
TN-PERI seeks to provide critical information about pipeline emergencies while creating a training environment that strengthens relationships, improves communication, and builds trust among emergency responders and pipeline operators.
PERI Program
Design
-
Pipeline Emergencies is an 8-hour training class. It can be delivered as a full day or may be broken up into two 4-hour sessions to meet your department's needs.
-
Emergency responders, trained to teach the course, travel to your location to provide in-person training.
-
There is NO COST to responders for TN-PERI training. Individual departments request the class and work with TN-PERI trainers to develop a schedule for delivery.
